| Activity | Intelligence | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Budgeting my allowance | Logical-mathematical | because you have to calculate and plan numbers. |
| Leading a Minecraft raid | Interpersonal | because you have to coordinate ten people. |
| Journaling at night | Intrapersonal | because you have to understand your own feelings. |
A 2022 study of 3,000 teenage gamers found that different games recruit different intelligences. Builders in Minecraft scored high in visual-spatial tests; competitive Fortnite players showed strong bodily-kinesthetic reflexes and interpersonal coordination in squads; players who wrote lore and fan fiction had superior linguistic scores. Interestingly, the study found no relationship between hours played and academic grades, but it did find that gamers who explained their strategies aloud to teammates performed better in school presentations. The researchers concluded that the game itself matters less than the cognitive habits it trains.
